Pug’s Place

Never gonna give you up…

This just in: Tolkien was Racist.

Someone was bound to blather about this sort of thing eventually. They did it to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, now it’s Jackson’s turn. I’m just amused it took this long for someone to cry out that all the minions of Sauron are of non-white skin color, excepting Saruman (and arguably Denethor, possibly Wormtongue too).

Anyway, let’s all tell Mr. Lloyd Hart to go take a long walk off a short observation post on a very tall tower. And to do a flip before he pancakes!

Weta Workshop, New Zealand, and the Chronicles of Narnia

It’s official. Filming begins next near on CS Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in New Zealand by director Andrew Adamson (from Shrek). Information can be found at the BBC.

I wonder if when Voyage of the Dawn Trader is filmed I can be cast as Pug? I’d be a good slave trader. Really!

Physics Exam, Last Gainesville Update for ‘03

Just what the title says. I spent 30 minutes this morning fixing an error I caused on James’ laptop yesterday while working on getting his 3D Hardware working for BZFlag.

Best to everyone… :)

This is it

7:30 tomorrow morning is my last, and hardest, exam. Physics. I’ve studied not enough for it, but I feel oddly at peace. The worst I could do would be to not take it, in which case my final grade would be a C. I can only go up from there. So I fear no destruction. I am packed into my car except for my computer. It shall be disassembled promptly following the exam tomorrow, and then I check out, and then I get Theresa. With luck she will be there and ready to load things up. Then we go home!

Oh, sweet home how I miss you.

James and I learned today that BZFlag is an awesome game, though we also found out that a person playing with 190 FPS (i.e., me) fighting a person playing with 7 FPS (i.e., him, since he’s using Mesa to render the 3d) is completely unfair. He has some freaky Savage chip-set in his laptop that currently is not operating with 3D support. We’ll have to fix that next semester.

Good-night.

Done with German.

I can’t believe it. 5.5 years later, and I’m finally done. It’s over. I feel like crying from joy.

It’s like watching a universe be born

Today is a good day already. You see, a group of people have restored my faith in humanity. A group of smart people. The people at ThinkGeek. They have created the world’s (universe’s?) first caffeinated habanero sauce. The the Pugs were happy. I MUST HAVE SOME!!!

And now I must go to my German final exam. After this, I AM DONE WITH GERMAN! YES!

The Board Is Set. The Pieces Are Moving.

My 5th exam is tomorrow morning at 7:30. German. I shall do just fine. Wednesday at the same time is my Physics exam. This I should do alright on, as well. I have finished most everything I need to do here except pack. I have decided to take my computer back with me as well. If just so that Chris can admire it. ;)

I want to offer my sympathy to Odette who had some trouble today with a car door. I’ve smashed many digits. Sometimes on bokken… ;)

My little refrigerator is bleeding it’s in-nerds all over the towels spread before and inside it. It had to be defrosted. So sad. :( Oh well… :(

I’m about 50% through Watership Down for the first time. I like it so far - Thanks, Odette! So many books that I need to read… so little time! Ack, I’m stealing her lines!

*repents*

On to other news: For less than $100 you can buy your kids a DNA extraction kit for Christmas!. Yay!

The Last Samurai rocked.

Yesterday, Theresa and I watched The Last Samurai. Very good movie. Definitely about the end of an era and the conflict between the old and the new and the Emperor. It was exquisitely graphic, drawing the line only at watching hara-kiri from the front (No view of the belly opening up, but you do get to hear the dying moan in pain, and thus his second lops his head off to maintain his honor! Woo!). Great bokken scenes. Great battles. It’s very sad watching Gatling guns rip through the lines of honorable Samurai, but that’s the modern world for you.

I say the movie was awesome. The only thing that hurts it is the ending. It was a Hollywood ending. I’m sure most everyone who knows something of Japanese culture knows how it should have ended. I’ll give you a clue: One important character too many left Edo Castle at the end of the movie.

I’d say that if you liked old Samurai movies, definitely see this.

Just don’t listen to James who hates Tom Cruise just for his strange religion. ;)
