Apples to Apples

After dinner tonight the family and I played Apples to Apples, a game which Cort introduced Katie, Jen and I to last March. And today, Katie gave me the Party Box version of it as a birthday present! =O) It’s a great game of wit, humor and diplomacy with the ‘judge’. Tomorrow when Liz, Elf, Katie and I meet we shall have to play. Maybe even with Stephanie and Nolan. Fantastic. :)
I also want to thank Elf for our group’s new battlemat and a book of amusing (in all the wrong ways) Haiku, and Liz for a book which is sure to change my worldview for the better: The Simpsons and Philosophy.

You guys are all nutcases, and it’s fun.

Top Ten Favorite Words (Not in the Dictionary), Arnold!

A couple choice bits for you this evening. First: Merriam-Webster Online’s Top Ten Favorite Words (Not in the Dictionary), where woot comes in 3rd.

Also some amusing pictures of young Arnold with Vimen, which I found linked from Afroman’s Cheap Mods. Among other interesting things on that site is are a set of speakers made from hard drives, which makes me pine for all of those drives Odette’s dad had scattered about the sun room last year.

Hehe.

I woke up early this morning and did some Iaido with my katana. It was… invigorating.

Senior or Grad Student?

Here’s a question for you all:

In the fall I’m taking three grad courses and doing my undergraduate senior project. At the end of the fall term I’m going to get my B.S. degree. In the following spring I’ll be officially a graduate student, just one with 12/30 credit hours accounted for.

So what does that make me now? A senior, or a graduate student? What about in the fall? When all of your classes (in classrooms) are grad classes, are you still an undergraduate?

Am I right to be confused?

Birthday: Entertaining

I turned 21 yesterday, had an excellent T-bone dinner, cake and company. Also walked away with loot!

Loot:

Yes, I had a glass of the Grand Marnier. Went back to Jones Soda shortly thereafter.

Star Wars Photoshopped

As linked from Nodwick, check out a nice collection of photoshopped Star Wars posters. In honor of photoshopping and image manipulation everywhere, I’m sure. :)

Let’s MST Pizza Delivery Jedi

The idea was batted around today at lunch of redubbing completely different audio over Pizza Delivery Jedi to make a new story. Something funny. Not a bad idea, actually — I’ve been wanting to put different music on it, but haven’t been willing to reassemble the voice tracks. We just need a script set to the movie and then to sit down with some voice actors of various sexes and dub the sucka.

But that would require us to have a good script. Another idea is to take the present movie and record some people making up insane and/or funny dialogue as it goes along, repeat a few times and then edit together the best craziness. Might end up just being stupid.

But, what about having our own versions of Crow, Tom Servo and Gypsy sit down in front of a theatre screen and go Mystery Science Theatre 3000 on it? Face it, there’s a whole lot of stuff in Pizza Delivery Jedi to mock. I think this idea, too, has real promise.

My lunch companions are thinking about it, and I’d appreciate all of your input too — including scripts. ;)

Mystery, Seduction, Monologuing, Unruly Mobs and Unexpected Heroes

That’s what dungeons and dragons is all about! …at least with this crew!

Oh God, we were in very rare form tonight. Expect bloggings of some of the most hilarious bits from Liz and Elf fairly soonish.

I could write a bunch, but it sounds like Liz and Elf want to put fingers to keyboards first — Liz already said she was going to start her blog entry off with a great statement. ;)
I know, I’m teasing you all with choice bits but golly, you’ll forgive me later.

There’s really nothing to DMing. At least when your mind is as twisted as mine.

UPDATE: Liz’s first post about the fun.

New Deck

I’ve been employed this weekend in assisting in the construction of our new deck. This deck doubles the amount of decked area we have in the back yard. Amid random downpours this afternoon we finished all of the structure for the deck, now Mom and Uncle Chuck just need to screw in the top-boards upon which one walks. Then we’re going to re-top the old deck, which will involve removing all of the boards upon that deck. We’ll get to find out what’s been living down there for the past 30 years… should be interesting (and possibly scary).

Sunburnt, despite SPF-30 sunscreen.

Enjoyed the last two episodes of Enterprise, aired Friday.

Craving a taco, but going to bed without dinner because too tired to hunt/scavenge/otherwise acquire food. And Sean Flynn isn’t nearby to hand me taco. ;)
Aside, Flynn gets to play video games and get paid for it, since he’s presently (temporarily) staffing a LAN gaming place. No taco for me! :(

Mystery and Excitement

Mystery and Excitement? No, actually mystery and frustration.

So I can’t write mystery campaigns. I’m trying, dangit. Ghost and Shen are hilarious together, but I apparently don’t understand how to write a good clue… which isn’t surprising since the only mysteries I’ve read are various Hardy Boys and maybe four or so Sherlock Holmes novels. Elf pointed out that she doesn’t have the infinite perception of the sleuths in one of those stories.

Oops. Ah well, it just means that neither Ghost nor Shen have died yet. The time grows ever closer, ever closer… >:) Then I either need to buy a module with good roleplay value, or we’re going to have to get to some tactical combat which is something I can choreograph well.

Anyway, I just woke up for no particular reason and decided to type this up. Time to get back to bed until 9 AM or so…

Stabbity Stabbity

I needed some stabbing tonight so I went to an old friend, The Barney Fun Page, a site I found in 1994. The site’s showing its age but is still just as entertaining as it once was.

Nothing like good ol’ fashioned fun to take your mind off of a Monday.
