Shouldn’t life be more like a musical?

I’m home sick; I was away from work Tuesday, Thursday and today all because I caught a particularly nasty influenza despite getting my flu shot in December. Unfortunately, I don’t get ’sick leave’ and I haven’t yet accrued sufficient ‘personal time off’ so I’m now subtracting these days off from my floating holiday stash - e.g., what people usually use for Christmastime. Ah well, the holiday will still work out, I get enough vacation to take a good time off for Christmas even without the holiday time…

I’m spending lots of time asleep… well, in between things waking me up such as garbage trucks, Zach attacking my door, heat, cold, Mormons (who are presently knocking loudly), boxes succumbing to Zach’s might and falling over, medicine, etc. I’m usually unable to spend much time unconscious so this is rather novel. When not asleep I’m tending to read (though last night I watched Top Gun, too). Among the things I’ve been reading have been some folks’ blogs - such as Robbie’s. He made a short post last month about seeing the musical Mamma Mia! wherein he asks:

Why can’t real life be more like a musical?

Could you imagine if we all settled our disputes by dancing? I would probably spend a good deal of time in the loser’s circle, but that’s OK. It would be worth it to look forward to seeing the couple who are horrible yet simultaneously perfect for each other settle their disputes every day with a duet over lunch…

Maybe it’s the prescription-strength cough/sore throat/sinus syrup talking but I find that idea to be humorous and appealing. I can imagine such a world, and I can even imagine writing a bad short story about such a society where dancing was the primary dispute resolution technique (no need for music though that adds fun, of course). Surely someone has already described such an idea, but I’m not up to finding out right now. In fact, now that the Mormons are gone again I think returning to sleep sounds like a good choice for a few more hours.

Pugmobile

I’m back from my trip to Boston and as promised, here’s a picture of my car with its new Arizona plates: Pugmobile with AZ Plates

This is a post of few words because I’m a little sick. Working on getting better, though. Chris is telling me I should call in sick to work, which is, of course, the logical thing to do. (presently I’m simply planning on being late to work, though no one would care about that) Unfortunately I haven’t accumulated enough time off to take a complete sick day, so if I do it I’ll have to stay late the rest of the week. Foo.

If I’m feeling well enough, tonight I’m scheduled to do my first bit of nighttime flying. I expect it to rank in as ‘oooooh, pretty!’ on the shiny scale, so I’ll try hard not to get distracted.

Oh, and people like the Linux fish and Pug plate on my car and someone recognized Cloud as an Eskie in this picture.
