Maybe if I write short posts, I’ll do it more often?

Katie and I are thinking about houses. This happens, I guess. Anyway, I think I’ve finally figured out some things I want:

1. A basement would be awesome. Lower cooling costs in the summer, lower heating in the winter.
2. A south-facing roof, so that we can put photovoltaics on it — even though I know they aren’t a really juicy investment now, energy costs are going to keep going up….
3. It’d be cool if the house was relatively easy to add conduit into the walls.

Basements aren’t very common out here. The issue is: it costs more to dig than it does to build up, so it’s cheaper to have a 2nd story instead of a basement.
